Kansas: GOP-Affiliated Group Hits Boyda in New Ad

A Republican 527 organization is on television in the 2nd district with an ad critical of Rep. Nancy Boyda (D), who is facing a spirited challenge from state Treasurer Lynn Jenkins (R).

The 30-second spot is being aired by the Republicans Who Care Individual Fund. The ad criticizes Boyda’s record on taxes and government spending but makes no specific recommendation to voters about how they should vote on Election Day.

The cost of the ad buy was $75,000. The spot is running on broadcast and cable. Jenkins’ name is never mentioned in the ad.

“Boyda voted with liberal [Speaker] Nancy Pelosi [D-Calif.] 92 percent of the time,” the ad’s voice-over says. “Call Nancy Boyda. Tell her to stop supporting big spending plans. Tell her we paid already.”

The Kansas Democratic Party responded swiftly, lashing out at both Jenkins and the 527 organization behind the ad.

“In stark contrast to Lynn Jenkins, who voted for the largest tax increase in Kansas history, Nancy Boyda has a long and proven record of cutting middle class taxes,” KDP spokeswoman Jenny Davidson said in a statement. “It’s unfortunate these outside groups are coming in and distorting the truth in a desperate attempt to save Jenkins’ sinking campaign.”
