Cole Withdraws; Sessions Is New NRCC Chief

Rep. Tom Cole (Okla.) on Wednesday unexpectedly withdrew from the race to keep his chairmanship of the National Republican Congressional Committee for another cycle, leaving the gavel to his rival, Rep. Pete Sessions (Texas). Sessions, heavily backed by Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio), was hoping to knock off Cole following the Nov. 4 elections that stripped the GOP of more than 20 seats in the House.
