Auto Bailout Starts Rolling

The $15 billion auto industry package is still mired in staff-level negotiations, but House Democratic leaders are ready to take action tonight.

The Rules Committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. today to report out a same-day rule for the auto bailout bill, a move that allows Democrats to bring the measure to the floor the same day as its rule.

A senior Democratic aide said there are a few unresolved issues left to work out, but House and Senate leaders are “hopeful” to produce a final bill later tonight.

The House Democratic Caucus is expected to meet Wednesday morning to discuss the proposal.
