Boehner Accuses Pelosi of Shorting GOP on Committees

Warning of the dangers of “one-party rule,” House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) on Monday blasted Democratic leaders for not putting enough Republicans on committees.

In a letter to Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Boehner complained that committee ratios put into place by Democrats unfairly minimize GOP participation in crafting key legislation. He accused Democrats of leaving “millions of Americans … without representation.”

Boehner said Republicans’ recent objections resulted in Pelosi only “slightly” modifying the committee ratios. Pelosi gave the minority two additional seats: one on Energy and Commerce and one on Financial Services.

“It has become clear that without more comprehensive changes by the majority, millions of Americans will be left without representation in committees responsible for writing critical legislation that will affect the lives of every citizen,” Boehner wrote. “This is unacceptable.”

Democrats currently control the House 257-177.
