Kentucky: Conway to Kick Off Senate Bid Today

After announcing his intention to challenge Sen. Jim Bunning (R) last week, state Attorney General Jack Conway will formally kick off his campaign at 4:30 p.m. today at the Muhammad Ali Center in Louisville.

Conway’s political ally, state Auditor Crit Luallen — who was also mentioned as a potential Senate candidate this cycle — is expected to join Conway for his announcement today, along with Rep. John Yarmuth (D) and other state officials.

But, Conway does not have a clear road to the Democratic nomination. Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo (D) announced in January that he would take a second shot at the Senate seat after narrowly losing to Bunning in 2004. Gov. Steve Beshear (D) announced his endorsement of Mongiardo in late March.
