Motorcycle Cop, SUV in Accident on First Street Northeast

Updated: 3:35 P.M.

The Capitol Police blocked off a section of First Street Northeast on Tuesday morning, after an SUV ran into an officer on a motorcycle at First Street and Constitution Avenue.

Officer John W. Ruskoski was transported to the hospital with “non-life-threatening injuries— while the driver of the SUV was uninjured, said Capitol Police spokeswoman Sgt. Jessica Baboulis. Ruskoski was released by Tuesday afternoon.

At about 11 a.m., officers were still surveying the scene, chalking the outlines of the car and motorcycle and keeping pedestrians on the sidewalk. Tourists snapped pictures as they walked past to the Supreme Court and the Capitol Visitor Center.

Baboulis said that by 11:20 a.m. the street had been opened to traffic.
