HOH’s One-Minute Recess: The Voice of Gossip Girl’ Gets Serious

Wonky Sens. Russ Feingold (D-Wis.) and James Inhofe (R-Okla.) aren’t exactly known for being the hippest Members of Congress, but they’re scheduled to appear alongside one of Hollywood’s hot young actresses Thursday night at the Capitol Visitor Center.

[IMGCAP(1)]“Veronica Mars— actress Kristen Bell will headline a reception and screening of the documentary “The Rescue of Joseph Kony’s Child Soldiers— tonight at the CVC. Bell, who narrates the CW’s “Gossip Girl,— will join co-hosts Feingold and Inhofe at the event, designed to educate Members and their staff about child abduction connected to ongoing conflicts in central Africa.

Filmmakers Bobby Bailey and Laren Poole also are expected to be on hand to answer questions following the film. John Prendergast, who chairs the Enough Project, the anti-genocide campaign run by the Center for American Progress, also is slated to appear.

The screening comes ahead of Invisible Children’s “The Rescue,— a coordinated event set to be held in 60 cities worldwide on Saturday to call on U.S. leaders to apprehend Joseph Kony, the leader of the Uganda rebel group Lord’s Resistance Army.

Kony is widely accused of kidnapping children and forcing them into LRA captivity. He’s been indicted by the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity but remains at large.

During Saturday’s events, some participants will simulate being abducted, remaining outside the event until they are “rescued— by Members of Congress and other prominent Americans, according to a press release.
