Obama Yet to Interview Prospective Supreme Court Picks

President Barack Obama is “making progress— toward naming a Supreme Court nominee, but he has yet to personally interview candidates, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said Friday.

Obama is expected to name a replacement for retiring Justice David Souter as early as next week. The president suggested to Senators at a White House meeting on Wednesday that an announcement is coming soon, perhaps within days.

Gibbs would not comment on whether Obama will interview any candidates during a stay at Camp David over the weekend or sometime at the White House next week.
