Finance Delays Markup of Health Care Bill

The Senate Finance Committee has postponed the markup of its health care reform bill until after the Fourth of July recess, sources confirmed Wednesday morning.

The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee began marking up its health care bill Wednesday, and Finance was scheduled to follow suit next Tuesday. Negotiations to merge the two bills were set to begin immediately following the upcoming recess.

How this delay affects plans by Senate Democratic leaders to clear a bill before the August recess remains unclear. But with Finance now delayed, keeping that final schedule is doubtful.
