Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) will travel to Copenhagen on Thursday night with President Barack Obama as part of a high-profile pitch to bring the Olympic Games to Chicago in 2016.Durbin spokesman Joe Shoemaker said Durbin will ride with the president, Education Secretary Arne Duncan, and Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood – all from Illinois – in Air Force One for the trans-Atlantic trip.“Durbin is going in his capacity as the head of the Illinois [Congressional] delegation,— said Shoemaker. “The president has asked people that he knows really know Illinois to go with him.—The president decided to go to Copenhagen on the eve of the International Olympic Committee’s vote in the hope of swinging the vote toward the United States’ bid. Rio de Janeiro, Madrid and Tokyo are also in the running.
