Streets Near Capitol Reopened After Suspicious Package Found

Police have reopened a section of New Jersey Avenue Northwest and the surrounding streets after closing them for more than half an hour Monday morning because of a suspicious package. Pedestrians on E and F streets Northwest were also cleared from the area. People leaving office buildings on E and F streets were asked to remain in their buildings for several minutes while the investigation was pending.Officer Helen Andrews of the Metropolitan Police Department said that a suspicious black bag was found in the 400 block of New Jersey Avenue Northwest. MPD officers were on the scene investigating and were assisted by Capitol Police.The streets were reopened at about 10:30 a.m. Police provided no additional information.
