Roof of Kelly’s Irish Times Catches Fire

The roof at Kelly’s Irish Times bar caught fire late Friday afternoon, kicking patrons, drinks in hand, to the sidewalk on F Street Northwest and drawing four firetrucks to the scene.

The small fire broke out on the pub’s skylight around 4:30 p.m., according to fire officials. Using a nearby hydrant, firefighters wove a hose through the restaurant and up to the roof, after evacuating a few dozen people. No one was injured.

By 5 p.m., firefighters had extinguished the flames and were packing up their equipment. Patrons lingered on F Street, some sipping glasses of wine and pints of beer. One witness said the fire might have been caused by some construction on the roof, though officials would not confirm that. One firefighter on the scene said the cause is still “under investigation.—
