Obama to Host Hispanic Members on Thursday

President Barack Obama will meet at the White House on Thursday afternoon with representatives of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, the White House announced Wednesday evening. The White House did not say what the topic of the session will be, but with a vote on health care reform in the House possibly just days away, it is likely the meeting will center on health care. Among those attending will be Hispanic Caucus Chairwoman Nydia Velázquez (D-N.Y.) and Reps. Xavier Becerra (D-Calif.), Charlie Gonzalez (D-Texas) and Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-Calif.). As votes in the House and Senate near, Obama is stepping up his outreach to lawmakers, meeting individually with moderate Senators and courting several House caucuses.Obama last week convened a White House meeting with leaders of the CHC, the Congressional Progressive Caucus, the Congressional Black Caucus and the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus to talk about health care as well.
