Ex-Speaker’s Son Among Republicans Backed By Centrist PAC

The Republican Main Street Partnership PAC, which promotes political centrism in the GOP, last month donated to the campaigns of four U.S. House candidates running in Democratic-held districts — three of whom face serious opposition in primary elections.

RMSP PAC is wading into the Republican primary in Illinois’ 14th district, where Rep. Bill Foster (D) is seeking a second full term. It donated $2,000 to Ethan Hastert, a lawyer and son of former House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert who is running against state Sen. Randy Hultgren in the Feb. 2 primary.

The PAC gave $5,000 to Ohio businessman Jim Renacci, a former small-town mayor who is challenging freshman Rep. John Boccieri (D) in the Canton-area 16th district. National Republican party figures prefer Renacci over Matt Miller, a former county commissioner who ran competitively in the 2006 and 2008 GOP primaries.
