Rep. Hinojosa’s Daughter Arrested for Drunken Driving

The daughter of Rep. Rubén Hinojosa (D-Texas) was arrested for drunken driving in San Juan, Texas, over the weekend following a traffic stop during which Laura Hinojosa failed “several— field sobriety tests, the Monitor newspaper reported.Hinojosa, 43, works as the Hidalgo County District Clerk, a position to which she was elected in 2006 after her predecessor was arrested for driving while intoxicated.Hinojosa was booked and released from the Hidalgo County jail. She refused to take a breathalyzer test but told the paper that she was not intoxicated. “I honestly did not think I was not fit to drive or else I wouldn’t have,— she told the newspaper.Rep. Hinojosa’s office did not return a call for comment.Laura Hinojosa’s arrest comes several weeks after the daughter of Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) and the wife of Sen. Dick Lugar (R-Ind.) were arrested on similar charges.
