Group Runs Anti-Abortion Ad Against Casey

The Susan B. Anthony List, a group that opposes abortion, is up with an anti-abortion TV spot targeting Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.) in Erie and his native Scranton, Pa. The ad buy is small (only $40,000), but it certainly, well, hits close to home.

The 60-second spot invokes Casey’s father, the late Gov. Bob Casey (D-Pa.), who clashed with his party over his opposition to abortion.

Sen. Casey, who considers himself also to be against abortion rights, has found himself in the middle of the health care debate on Capitol Hill because of certain provisions in the legislation that would allow for some health care plans to include abortion coverage. “The decision to oppose this bill would have been a no-brainer for Governor Casey,” said Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “Bob Casey, Sr. would have supported the idea of health care reform, but never at the expense of the little guy – the unborn child.”

A representative The Susan B. Anthony List said the ad buy is scheduled for Dec. 16 and 17, but could continue depending on what happens in the Senate.
