Houston Councilman Challenging Rep. Jackson Lee In Primary

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) has drawn a primary challenge in the 18th district from Houston city councilman Jarvis Johnson.

Johnson filed candidacy paperwork on Monday, the deadline to qualify for the March 2 primary election, according to The Houston Chronicle and a candidate list maintained by the Harris County Democratic Party.

The Chronicle noted Monday that Jackson Lee was a backer of Hillary Rodham Clinton’s 2008 Democratic presidential campaign, while Johnson supported eventual winner Barack Obama.
