Perriello Opponent Verga Has Deep Pockets

Virginia real estate investor Laurence Verga (R) is investing heavily in his own campaign to unseat Rep. Tom Perriello (D).

Verga gave nearly $227,000 in late 2009 to his own campaign in the form of personal loans or contributions, according to a report his campaign filed Monday with the Federal Election Commission.

Verga, who is one of seven Republicans challenging Perriello in Virginia’s 5th district, made a $183,889 loan to his campaign on Dec. 30 and a $30,000 loan on Dec. 31. Verga also made personal contributions of $2,690 on Nov. 25 and $10,000 on Dec. 7.
