Illinois Senate: Kirk On Statewide Cable

Illinois Rep. Mark Steven Kirk is up with his first television spot in the open-seat Senate race. The biographical spot that’s to run on cable stations across the state paints the five-term Republican as fiscally conservative and man of the military.

Kirk is relatively late in hitting the airwaves — perhaps signaling that he is confident heading into the Feb. 2 primary and wants to hold onto his cash until the general election.

Kirk’s chief opponent in the GOP primary, real estate developer Patrick Hughes (R), went up with his own TV spot last week.

Three of the four Democrats are already on the air with multiple TV spots.

Kirk’s spot was produced by the GOP consulting firm McCarthy Marcus Hennings, according to his spokesman Eric Elk.

CQ Politics currently rates this general election contest as a Tossup.
