A massive snowstorm pelted the Washington, D.C., region on Feb. 5-6, 2010, dumping as much as 30 inches of snow in some locations.

With most of the roads undrivable, pedestrians ruled the town, often walking in the middle of major thoroughfares. Hundreds of giddy Washingtonians gathered in Dupont Circle for an epic snowball fight, and tourists and locals alike braved the elements to get a glimpse of the whitewashed Capitol Dome.
