Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.) remains in the hospital one day after undergoing surgery to repair a bleeding ulcer.

Lautenberg, who turned 86 last month, fell at his Cliffside Park, N.J., home on Monday and was taken by ambulance to an area hospital the same day, where he was diagnosed with a bleeding ulcer. Lautenberg “underwent a successful endoscopy procedure” on Tuesday, according to spokesman Caley Gray, and remains in the hospital for observation.

“The Senator is expected to make a full recovery and will be back to work soon,” Gray said.

New Jersey’s senior Senator, Lautenberg was elected to a fifth term in 2008.
