Coble in Hospital After Fall

Updated: 7:29 p.m.

Rep. Howard Coble (R-N.C.) was in a North Carolina hospital Thursday night after fainting and hitting his head during a public appearance, but appears to be OK, according to his spokesman.

“Everything appears to be fine,” Coble Chief of Staff Ed McDonald said. “He banged his head on the wall and cut his head. It didn’t require stitches.”

McDonald said so far all of the tests run on Coble, 78, haven’t shown any problems, and he didn’t appear to do any serious damage. But he said the Congressman will stay overnight at the hospital and will have additional tests “just to be sure.”

“Obviously, we have had to postpone Congressman Coble’s schedule for the next couple of days,” McDonald added. “When we have more information from the doctors, we will be able to make a determination of when Rep. Coble will be able to resume his duties.”

McDonald said Coble apologized to the team of medical professionals at High Point Regional Hospital for disrupting their day.
