Connecticut: Ex-Rep. Johnson Backs Ex-Colleague Simmons

Former Rep. Nancy Johnson (R) is backing the Senate bid of ex-Rep. Rob Simmons (R), the Simmons campaign announced Monday.

Simmons faces former World Wrestling Entertainment CEO Linda McMahon and businessman Peter Schiff in the GOP primary. The winner will likely face Attorney General Richard Blumenthal (D) in November.

“Rob Simmons is uniquely qualified to serve as our next United States Senator,” Johnson said in a campaign news release. “As a decorated veteran and CIA agent, Rob risked his life to defend our nation. As a legislator and Connecticut’s Business Advocate, he fought for lower taxes, less government and jobs for Connecticut families.”

Johnson and Simmons were turned out of the House in the 2006 elections, when Democrats swept almost every House race in New England.
