North Dakota: Democrats Struggle to Find Senate Nominee

Democrats still don’t have a top-tier candidate to put up against Gov. John Hoeven for the open Senate seat.

Former secretary of state candidate and businesswoman Kristin Hedger ruled out a run on Monday, the Grand Forks Herald reported.

Her decision came less than a week after former Attorney General Heidi Heitkamp also passed on being the Democrats’ standard-bearer.

Democrats have been scrambling to find a strong candidate to defend the seat of Sen. Byron Dorgan (D), who will retire at the end of his term. The party’s only candidate is state Sen. Tracy Potter, who acknowledges he is something of a David going up against Goliath.
