New York: Barclay Opts Out of Bid for 23rd District Seat

State Assemblyman Will Barclay (R) has decided not to run for the 23rd district seat.

Barclay’s announcement came less than a week after accountant Doug Hoffman (R), the narrow loser in last fall’s special election, confirmed that he will be taking another swing at the seat.

Two other Republicans — businessman Matt Doheny and Franklin County Legislator Paul Maroun — are expected to vie with Hoffman for the party’s nomination.

Hoffman ran on the Conservative Party line in the fall special election after losing the GOP nomination to Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava.

Attorney and now-Rep. Bill Owens (D) edged Hoffman to win the seat.
