Biden to Preside Over Senate for Reconciliation Vote

Vice President Joseph Biden will preside over the Senate Thursday afternoon when it votes on the health care reconciliation package.

Biden will be in the chair “for symbolic reasons, not practical ones, when we pass reconciliation,” said a Senate Democratic aide.

A final vote is lining up for 2 p.m., after Senators wrap up a second vote-a-rama session on a series of GOP amendments. Senators voted into the early hours Thursday morning on nearly two dozen Republican amendments to the package, which was passed by the House on Sunday. But because Senate Republicans succeeded in making two minor changes to the bill, the House will have to revote on it later Thursday.
