Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) wants voters to know there’s a big difference between Washington, D.C., and Washington County, Colo., population 4,926.

Bennet’s new campaign ad kicks off with him appearing outside the Capitol, clad in a business suit and saying, “In this Washington, they spend money they don’t have.”

The ad then cuts to Bennet pointing to a road sign in Washington County, wearing a light-colored jacket: “In this Washington, families are looking for ways to get by,” he says.

The ad continues to switch back and forth between the two Washingtons before ending with Bennet in Washington County to assure voters that “I know what Colorado families are going through, and I know things need to change.”

Bennet began his television advertising campaign last month, on the heels of his narrow loss to former state Speaker Andrew Romanoff (D) in first-round precinct caucuses. Bennet still is favored to win the August primary and is much better-funded than Romanoff.

Former Lt. Gov. Jane Norton, county prosecutor Ken Buck and former state Sen. Tom Wiens are among the Republicans challenging Bennet.
