Ex-Rep. Lukens Dies at 79

Former Rep. Donald “Buz” Lukens died of cancer Saturday at 79, the Associated Press reported. The Ohio Republican’s career in the House was cut short when he was convicted in 1989 of paying a 16-year-old girl for sex.

After rebuffing demands that he resign his seat, Lukens was defeated in the 1990 GOP primary by now-Minority Leader John Boehner. Lukens resigned in October 1990 amid new allegations of sexual misconduct. He was convicted in 1996 on a bribery charge related to the House banking scandal.
