HOH’s One-Minute Recess: You’ve Got a Friend (With Cash)

It’s a big night in Washington: Pitching phenom Stephen Strasburg makes his debut at Nationals Park and primary results from Arkansas, California, Nevada and other states will be rolling in. But for a few Members of Congress, Tuesday night is all about music — and fundraising checks.

At least two Members are planning to hold fundraisers at Tuesday night’s James Taylor/Carole King concert at the Verizon Center. Rep. John Hall (D-N.Y.) is offering premium seats for $500 and a VIP package for $2,500. (The invite promises “exclusive Stage Seating designed to recreate the intimacy of the vintage Troubadour club amidst the excitement of an arena crowd!”) A concert featuring 1970s-era musicians is a natural venue for Hall, who was a ’70s rocker himself with the band Orleans.

And while she’s not a former rock star (at least that we know of), Rep. Diana DeGette (D-Colo.) is holding a fundraiser at the concert, too, offering seats for $2,500.

Looks like the two will find out “How Sweet It Is” to be loved by lobbyists.
