Johnson Heads Home After Operation

Sen. Tim Johnson was released from the hospital Thursday after having surgery to remove his gallbladder.

The South Dakota Democrat had the operation Tuesday, a day after he was admitted to the Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center with a high fever.

“Sen. Johnson is doing remarkably well and was released from the hospital earlier today with instructions to take it easy while he continues to recover,” said his doctor, Scott Beckstrand, according to a statement released by Johnson’s office. Beckstrand added that it could take several weeks for Johnson to return to his normal schedule.

“I’m glad to finally be home and on the mend,” Johnson said in the statement.
