Postal Square Post Office Evacuated

Updated: 3:01 p.m.

The Post Office at Postal Square near Union Station was evacuated around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday when the fire alarm sounded throughout the building.

Capitol Police Spokesperson Sgt. Kimberly Schneider said the alarm was not a drill and all employees have left the building. Nobody has reported seeing smoke or fire.

“We have a couple of our units on the scene investigating,” she said.

The surrounding streets, including Columbus Circle, North Capitol, Massachusetts Avenue and G and E Streets NW, are closed off or being restricted to cars.

At 3 p.m., the post office was cleared for re-entry.
