Murkowski to Announce Electoral Plans Friday

Sen. Lisa Murkowski confirmed Thursday she will reveal her plans for the general election on Friday in Alaska.

Murkowski, the Senate GOP Conference Vice Chairwoman who was defeated last month in the Alaska Republican primary, is contemplating running as a write-in candidate. She declined to give reporters any clues about to her pending decision.

Murkowski said “the only thing” she’s considering as she weighs her options is Alaska. The Senator added that she has not conducted any polling to determine if she would be viable as a write-in.

Her colleagues on the GOP Senate leadership team are urging Murkowski to accept the will of Republican primary voters and retire.

Fairbanks attorney Joe Miller narrowly defeated Murkowski in the August primary, and has since received strong endorsements from Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) And National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman John Cornyn (Texas).
