Davis Predicts 50-Seat GOP Gain
Former Rep. Tom Davis (R-Va.) on Thursday predicted a net 50-seat pick-up for House Republicans on Nov. 2, and said there is little Democrats can do to turn it around.
Davis is president of The Republican Main Street Partnership — a group of moderate GOP Members — and is a former two-term chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee. He said Republicans might win even more seats in typically Democratic districts, and might only be limited by the amount of money they have to spend.
“I think [the GOP] will net 50 plus, and I think it’s more likely to go up than down,” Davis told reporters during a briefing Thursday morning, adding that the majority of new voters that carried Democrats to victory in 2008 are “asleep” and that independent voters are poised to heavily support Republicans.
Davis served in northern Virginia’s 11th district until he retired in 2008.
