Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) made his bid for the Speakership official Thursday in a letter to House Republicans.

Boehner has made no secret of his intent to run for Speaker and is all but assured to be elected, but the letter is his official request that his colleagues vote him in.

In his letter, Boehner said that if elected, he will run a House that “is humbler, more transparent, and respects the will and intelligence of the people.”

He reiterated his promise to implement the reforms outlined in the Republican “Pledge to America” agenda, including a 72-hour review period for bills before they can come up for a vote, a ban on “comprehensive” bills and reforms to “eliminate rules that make cutting wasteful spending hard and increasing spending too easy.”

“It’s the American Dream that brought me here,” Boehner said in the letter. “Defending and restoring that Dream for our children and grandchildren will be my mission as Speaker, if I am fortunate enough to serve. I humbly ask for your vote to serve as Speaker of the House in the 112th Congress.”
