Heard on the Hill: Twitter Love
If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then presumptive Speaker John Boehner should be thrilled to see the new Twitter feed for Boehner’s Boys. The account, launched Wednesday by EMILY’s List, pokes fun at the Ohio Republican and GOP leadership.
One tweet reads: “Not sure where this ‘wet bar in every office’ rumor got started, but it’s not happening. So just pick up your humidors and shut up.”
The feed links back to BoehnersAmerica.org, a site designed by EMILY’s List to blast Boehner, presumptive House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (Va.) and other Republicans.
One tweet on the Young Guns, said, “no one noticed how many young guns were middle-aged!” The feed even makes a joke about Boehner and President Barack Obama’s Slurpee summit, suggesting Obama instead swing by the Capitol Hill Club to do shots in celebration of Boehner’s 61st birthday, which was Wednesday.
Shots were not a part of Boehner’s actual birthday, however. He enjoyed a Thanksgiving-themed lunch with staff, spokesman Michael Steel says.
Staffers even serenaded their boss with the famed “Boehner Birthday Song.” While aides were belting out the tune, Rep. John Shimkus was tweeting his own version. The Illinois Republican wrote: “@GOPLeader, this is your birthday tweet, it doesn’t last too long. Hey!”
