‘Young Guns’ to Host Town Hall Discussing Leadership in 112th Congress

Three House Republican leaders, known as the “Young Guns,” will host a town hall meeting Monday at American University to discuss their recently released book, the midterm elections and how the Republican majority plans to lead in the 112th Congress.

Majority Leader-designate Eric Cantor (Va.), Majority Whip-designate Kevin McCarthy (Calif.) and presumed chairman of the Budget Committee Rep. Paul Ryan (Wis.) will host the event in conjunction with the Kennedy Political Union at American University from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. inside the Ward Circle Building.

Following the town hall, the three lawmakers will meet with students and sign copies of their book, “Young Guns: A New Generation of Conservative Leaders.” The trio released the book in September.

The event was originally scheduled to take place in late September but was postponed to accommodate the House’s voting schedule.

Brad Dayspring, who serves as spokesman for the book, said the leaders would use the town hall to discuss the fresh approach Republicans will bring to Washington next year. Republicans retook the House majority on Nov. 2, capturing at least 62 Democratic-held seats.

Dayspring added that many of the incoming lawmakers were part of the National Republican Congressional Committee’s “Young Guns” program, founded by Cantor, McCarthy and Ryan, which helps recruit and elect GOP candidates.

“Over 60 Young Gun candidates have been elected to come to Washington and cut spending, rein in government and remove the uncertainty hanging over the private sector so that Americans can get back to work,” he said. “In addition to these issues, the youth town hall will no doubt focus on the new generation of elected conservatives who are ready to listen, lead and start delivering results.”
