Heard on the Hill: Ethics Panel Calls … Trump?

Oh, what might have been.

New documents released by the House ethics committee Tuesday show business guru Donald Trump was expected to testify at Rep. Charlie Rangel’s adjudicatory hearing.

In an Oct. 22 letter to the New York Democrat, ethics panel Chief Counsel Blake Chisam writes that Trump was expected to be called in his role at the Trump Organization to discuss “communications and meetings between Trump and Representative Rangel regarding the Rangel Center” and “Trump and The Trump Organization’s business and interests before the House.”

Chisam said during the proceedings that witnesses were in D.C. and prepared to testify, according to transcripts. But after Rangel refused to participate in the proceedings, the committee decided to forgo witness testimony. The Trump Organization did not respond to a request for comment by press time.
