Heard on the Hill: Mendendez Will Be Kalling on the Kardashian Sisters
It really was only a matter of time before the Kardashians crept up on Capitol Hill.
Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) on Tuesday invited the Kardashian sisters to support his soon-to-be-introduced legislation targeting excessive prepaid debit card fees. As Kardashian fans know, Kim, Kourtney and Khloe recently pulled out of a deal that used their likeness on a prepaid debit card after it was heavily criticized for being too costly to consumers.
“You don’t become the most Googled people on Earth by accident. The Kardashians certainly know how to market themselves, and it shows great business sense to protect their fans from surprise and unnecessary fees that would have been associated with their brand,” Menendez says. “Few people have a bigger platform to inform the public than these sisters.”
Considering the Kardashians’ willingness to, um, draw attention to themselves, HOH is guessing they’ll accept his offer.
Menendez isn’t just hoping to work with the dashing divas, however. He also recently wrote to Elizabeth Warren, adviser to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, asking the agency to issue regulations for the cards.
