Heard on the Hill: GOP Victory
It’s no secret Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell are political rivals. But on Monday, the two sparred on the floor over a topic that had nothing to do with Congress — the Nevada Democrat and Kentucky Republican got into it over college basketball.
“To be honest with you, I was hoping the Republican leader wouldn’t be here today at this time so I could avoid him because I didn’t want to talk about the Saturday basketball game,” Reid said, referencing the University of Louisville’s 77-69 victory over the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
McConnell, who attended the game, rubbed in the upset. “Five minutes into the second half, your Rebels were up by nine and it looked pretty bleak,” he said. “But all’s well that ends well, and the Louisville Cardinals managed to win.”
After a few moments of sports banter, the two found a more familiar topic on which to disagree: taxes.
