FBI agents on Friday arrested a Colorado man who threatened Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) and his staff, the Denver Post reported Monday.

The man most recently threatened Bennet’s office with “terrorism” on Thursday, just two days prior to the Tucson, Ariz., shooting rampage that killed six people and gravely wounded Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D) and 13 others.

The man, whom the Denver Post identified as John Troy Davis, reportedly was upset about his Social Security benefits and had previously threatened to “shoot” Bennet’s staff as well as “set fire to the perimeter” of Bennet’s Denver office.

Davis also reportedly told Bennet’s staff in one call that he was “schizophrenic and I need help,” according to the newspaper, which cited the arrest warrant.

The Denver Post noted that Bennet’s staff had set up a hearing for Davis regarding his Social Security benefits, but Davis never showed up.

In a statement, Bennet spokesman Adam Bozzi said: “We can confirm that there was a threat against Senator Bennet’s office and that the FBI working with the Capitol Police have arrested the individual responsible for the threat. … Michael has full confidence in the law enforcement agencies handling the case and remains focused on his job serving the people of Colorado.”
