Allen to Announce Bid for Former Senate Seat

Former Sen. George Allen (R-Va.) will announce on Monday a 2012 Senate campaign to win back the seat he lost to Sen. Jim Webb (D), several media outlets reported and Roll Call confirmed Sunday night.

His website, GeorgeAllen.com, teased supporters Sunday with the vague banner message, “Stay tuned.” Webb defeated Allen in one of the biggest upsets of 2006, but the incumbent has not declared whether he will run for re-election. Webb told the Washington Post last month that he expects to make a decision by the end of March.

Tea party activist Jamie Radtke has already announced her GOP candidacy.

Allen is expected to announce his candidacy to supporters via e-mail, the Washington Post and Associated Press reported.
