Tim Pawlenty Debuts in New Hampshire With Video

CONCORD, N.H. — Tim Pawlenty’s keynote address tonight is among the highlights of what’s considered his coming-out tour in the first-in-the-nation primary state. And in that spirit, the prospective GOP presidential hopeful released a YouTube video in advance of the speech that offers the tone and intensity of a high-profile unveiling.

It opens with images of such transformational symbols as the Berlin Wall falling and Martin Luther King Jr. Pawlenty speaks throughout the video, but his face and identity are kept secret until 40 seconds into the video, at which time he faces the audience and his title (“Former Governor of Minnesota Tim Pawlenty”) flashes across the screen.

The music then builds to a crescendo as jets shoot across the sky and cannons boom.

“None of this is gonna be easy, but this is the United States of America,” Pawlenty says in the voice-over. “It takes an extraordinary effort, it takes extraordinary commitment, it takes extraordinary strength. Valley Forge wasn’t easy. Going to the moon wasn’t easy. Settling the West wasn’t easy.”

The former governor is scheduled to make the keynote address at tonight’s Merrimack County GOP reception. He will also appear at the “Politics and Eggs” meeting Tuesday morning in nearby Bedford, hosted by the New England Council and the New Hampshire Institute of Politics & Political Library.
