Vice President Joseph Biden will deliver remarks Friday as part of a leadership lecture series held at the University of Louisville, the alma mater of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

The Kentucky Republican will introduce Biden at the free public event, according to Biden’s office. The lecture series is organized by the McConnell Center, a university scholarship program founded by McConnell in 1991.

Biden will be the first sitting vice president to appear in the series, according to Denise Fitzpatrick, a communications specialist with the university. She said the vice president had not revealed the topic of his speech as of Thursday evening, but the McConnell Center emphasizes leadership by inviting prominent national and international figures to speak at the campus. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton was part of the 2010 series.

The McConnell Center has been pursuing Biden as a lecturer for almost a year, Fitzpatrick said.
