Hasner Social Media Presence Hints at Run in Florida

Rep. Connie Mack IV (R) may have surprised political observers last week by deciding not to challenge Sen. Bill Nelson (D), but Twitter and Facebook suggest that former state House Majority Leader Adam Hasner (R) won’t be surprising anyone. A favorite of local grass-roots conservatives, it’s likely only a matter of time before Hasner jumps into the race.

Not convinced? Judge for yourself: “It’s clear to me that this election still needs a proven limited government leader, who is solid across the board on the conservative principles upon which our party was founded,” he wrote on his Facebook page after Mack’s Friday announcement.

“I look forward to continuing the conversation I am having with grassroots activists across Florida about the issues critical to our nation’s future, and the type of strong, uncompromising leadership we need in Washington, as we explore our own challenge to Bill Nelson.”

And he flashed a sense of humor Monday in another telling post, this time on Twitter: “If we pursue Senate race against Bill Nelson, I can promise you: I will never lock a reporter in a closet … not even when they deserve it,” he said, referencing an incident involving a reporter at a recent Florida event with Vice President Joseph Biden.

The reporter has said the incident was blown out of proportion.
