Djou Deferring to Lingle on Senate Bid

Former Rep. Charles Djou (R-Hawaii) told a conservative group in Hilo on Sunday that he will defer to former Gov. Linda Lingle (R) before considering a bid for the state’s open Senate seat.

“I look forward to supporting Gov. Lingle,” Djou said, according to the Hawaii Tribune-Herald. “I believe she will make a very good U.S. Senator.”

Djou expects Lingle to make an announcement on the Senate race this summer. If she opts not to run, Djou said he and his wife “will have a very long discussion.”

In January, Djou joined former Rep. Walt Minnick (D-Idaho) in forming the Majority Group, a bipartisan government affairs and strategic consulting firm.
