Santorum Wins South Carolina Straw Poll

Former Sen. Rick Santorum (R) won a presidential straw poll over the weekend at an event hosted by the Greenville County Republican Party in South Carolina.

Santorum took 31 percent of the vote. In second place with 14 percent of the vote was former Speaker Newt Gingrich (Ga.), who joined Santorum and Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour in speaking at the Saturday event in the key presidential nominating state.

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) and Donald Trump tied for third place with 7 percent each. CNN reported that Barbour tied for fifth place. There were 431 votes cast.
