Heard on the Hill: Star Jones Wont Vote for Trump
Star Jones may want to be Donald Trump’s apprentice, but don’t expect her to campaign for him if he announces a 2012 presidential bid.
The TV personality, who appears on this season of “The Celebrity Apprentice,” was on the Hill on Wednesday to lobby for the American Heart Association. In between meeting with lawmakers, including Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), to talk about heart disease and research funding, Jones told HOH that she’ll support President Barack Obama, just as she did in 2008.
Some celebrities have criticized Trump for jumping on the birther bandwagon and demanding to see the president’s birth certificate.
Jones, a former prosecutor and legal correspondent for NBC and “Inside Edition,” carefully toes the line. “There’s incontrovertible evidence that the president was born in the United States of America,” she says. “That’s good enough for me, and that’s good enough for everybody who is a reasonable, thinking, logical individual.”
Despite her disagreements with The Donald, Jones, who had open-heart surgery a year ago, calls him a friend and says he is an important reason she’s still around: She met her cardiologist through Trump’s brother and sister-in-law.
