K Street Files: Baucus Aide Moves to K Street Firm

Holland & Knight, which has been on a hiring spree this year, just nabbed Pat Bousliman from the Senate Finance Committee.

Bousliman, who signs on to the firm as a senior policy adviser, spent 13 years working for Finance Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.). He logged three years in Baucus’ personal office and spent the past decade on the committee. His most recent role was being professional staff for tax policy.

“There was never a dull moment,” Bousliman said of his time on Capitol Hill. “But I felt it was time to move on.”

The new lobbyist will be based in Washington, D.C., but will also spend time in Holland & Knight’s Portland, Ore., office. He plans to focus his practice on energy tax and transportation matters.

He will be under a one-year ban from lobbying any Senators or Senate staff members.

Bousliman said he picked Holland & Knight after being lobbied by his new colleagues over the years.

“They do their homework, and they know their stuff when they come to the Hill,” he said.

Lobby practice leader Rich Gold called the pickup a “home run” for his shop.

“Obviously he’s considered to be one of the top energy tax experts, not just in town but nationally,” Gold said.
