Former Illinois Deputy Treasurer Raja Krishnamoorthi (D) launched an exploratory committee Monday to look at running for the House in the northwest suburbs of Chicago.

“I have the public and private-sector experience to bring real-world solutions to our current challenges, while respecting taxpayers and paying attention to the bottom-line,” Krishnamoorthi said in a statement.

Although Krishnamoorthi filed to run against freshman Rep. Joe Walsh (R) in the 8th district, that might not be the case for long. Illinois state lawmakers are currently working to draw the new Congressional boundaries after reapportionment left the state with one less House seat.

Krishnamoorthi, who lives in Hoffman Estates, touted the support of former U.S. Judge Abner Mikva, Rep. Danny Davis (D) and former Rep. Debbie Halvorson (D) in his announcement. Krishnamoorthi was appointed deputy treasurer after his failed attempt to win the Democratic nomination for Illinois comptroller in 2010 — a race he lost by less than 1 point.

Walsh defeated three-term Democratic Rep. Melissa Bean, who told Roll Call last month that she would not seek her former seat again.
