Sharron Angle Fundraises as Courts Decide on Special

Former Senate candidate Sharron Angle (R) has said she won’t run as an Independent in Nevada’s 2nd district special election, but a fundraising appeal sent Sunday indicates she is not giving up after a judge ruled that the parties can choose their nominees.

The ruling reversed an earlier decision by Secretary of State Ross Miller that the election would be a free-for-all, with no primary. But Miller announced Friday that he asked the attorney general’s office to appeal the 1st District Court’s ruling to the state Supreme Court.

Should the lower court’s decision stand, Angle has little if any shot of being chosen by the state party, which is far more likely to pick former Chairman Mark Amodei or state Sen. Greg Brower.

“While these groups continue to fight, I’m amassing a financial war chest because as soon as they’re done spending their money on their expensive attorneys, they are going to combine their efforts against us,”

Angle said in the fundraising email. “Without your support, we will either get a liberal Democrat or a Republican who might as well be one.”

Republicans are scheduled to select their nominee at a June 18 meeting in Sparks, where they will also pick a new chairman.
